REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA - CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE, INC. (Nasdaq National Market: CMIC) announced today that its Microwave Network Systems, (MNS) division has completed work on a contract to replace the Howard County, MD, Public Safety Network. MNS worked with prime contractor Motorola in the $4 million wireless communications project. Frequency Relocation for new PCS Network The new system was built while the countyís old 2-GHz system continued to operate. The new network was needed in part because some of the 2-GHz frequencies had to be relocated for a new Personal Communications Services (PCS) system in the Washington-Baltimore area. The switchover to the new Howard County network was accomplished without causing any outage to the Public Safety Network, which is used by fire, police, ambulance and other county organizations. MNS provided the equipment, engineering and installation integration, using its TELESTARë 6-GHz and 10-GHz radios. The MNS part of the project was valued at approximately $1 million.
