REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA - CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE, INC. (Nasdaq National Market:CMIC) announced that its Satellite Transmission Systems division has signed a joint marketing agreement with the Samsung Corporation of Seoul, Korea and Samsung America Incorporated to pursue wireless communications opportunities in the Korean domestic and international marketplace. Over the past year, the companies have successfully pursued two major contracts, providing dual 8 Mbps Intermediate Data Rate (IDR) links between Back-Lyung Island and Inchon and a project which distributes 34 Mbps data and digital video to 30 remote sites. The distribution service is used to download display data to huge digital signboards located all over Korea. The system utilizes a 6-meter uplink hub station located on the roof-top of a building in Seoul and 1.8-meter receive only terminals at the signboard locations. The signals are transmitted over the Koreasat 1 satellite. California Microwaveís Progenyô Digital Satellite Television System is used throughout the 30-site network to transmit programming material from the hub station to the remotes and from the SNG vehicle to the hub. Progeny provides advantages to customers that analog systems cannot provide, including access to a wider range of satellite transponder channels, lower transponder costs and improved signal quality. An innovative design combines the latest MPEG-2 video and audio compression with modulation and frequency conversion in a simple-to-operate single unit that is compliant to the new, European Digital Video Broadcast standard. Progeny satellite news gathering systems have been sold to television broadcasters in Argentina, Poland, Romania, South Africa, Thailand, and the United States. California Microwave is also providing the uplink station for Samsungís own digital video distribution network which is scheduled to be completed in 1996. These projects represent a collaboration between California Microwave, Samsung Corporation and Samsung America, Inc. to expand their collective presence in the Korea domestic satellite communications market including digital video distribution, VSAT networks for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, video teleconferencing and business applications. California Microwave, Inc. is a leader in wireless and satellite communications. It is the number one U. S. supplier of microwave radios and telecommunications satellite earth stations used in wireless communications. The company operates facilities in seven states and sells into more than 110 countries. For More Information Contact: |
