CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE TO SUPPLY MICROWAVE RADIOS FOR
BRAZIL TELECOMMUNICATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE EXPANSION

REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA - CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE, INC. (Nasdaq National Market:CMIC) announced that it had won a $2 million contract to supply digital microwave radios for Telecommunicaciones de Rio de Janeiro S.A. (Telerj), a regional operator within Brazil's national telephone system. The radios, from the company's Microwave Network Systems division, will be used in Telerj's 1996 Data Network Infrastructure Expansion program. Telerj awarded a contract for the expansion of its telecommunications transmission network in the Rio de Janeiro area to California Microwave's Brazilian partner, Infranav.

State-of-the-Art Technology Enhances Capabilities
California Microwave will supply 18- and 23-GHz digital microwave radios from its K Model family of products, which offer compact, fully synthesized RF units; a common Network Monitoring System (NMS) interface; and absolute system redundancy.

Brazil: Privatization Spurs Telecommunications Market
According to the market research firm, Pyramid Research, Brazil anticipates an increase in the number of cellular users to 10 million by the year 2000, up from 1 million in 1995. Between 1995 and 2000, the Latin American market for cellular and PCS infrastructure is expected to grow from $1.5 billion to $3.7 billion.

Infranav is a Rio de Janeiro-based limited partnership, specializing in the installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems. In addition to the Telerj project, Infranav currently has active contracts with four other Brazilian regional operators.
