REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA - CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE, INC. (Nasdaq National Market:CMIC) announced today that it is completing installation of equipment provided by its Microwave Networks International (MNI) unit for a cellular network in Uzbekistan. The purchase order, valued at over $1 million, is MNI's fourth and largest to date from Northern Telecom Ltd. (Nortel) for the network. This order is for 2-, 7-, 13-, 18- and 23-GHz K- and Q-Model radio products and services.

Three earlier orders have been placed for MNI equipment for the network, beginning in mid-1995. Total value of those three orders was about $1 million. Uzbekistan is one of a number of republics of the former Soviet Union to which MNI has supplied equipment and services.

Dr. D. B. Christie, chairman of the board of Uzdunrobita, said: "The microwave backbone provided by California Microwave gives our company reliable connectivity for our traffic throughout Uzbekistan."

Total value of the Nortel contract is more than $19 million. Installation of equipment in the most recent order is to be completed by mid-July, with MNI providing services including installation supervision.
