CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE WINS $5 MILLION WIRELESS
COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM IN JAMAICA

REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA - CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE, INC. (Nasdaq National Market:CMIC) announced today that it had won a $5 million contract from the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), the Jamaican electric power utility operation, to supply digital microwave radios for the new JPS communications system which will interconnect JPS facilities throughout the island. Work on the project already has commenced and the system is expected to be fully installed and operational in early 1997.

New Digital System
On completion of the new communications system, JPS will have the largest privately operated communications network in Jamaica. This network will enable JPS to provide a highly reliable "teleprotection" capability, which will safeguard its many substations in the event of equipment malfunction. Further, it will facilitate supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) capability, which allows monitoring and control of equipment from remote locations. In addition, JPS will benefit from both voice and data communications to all its locations.

Advanced Digital Microwave Radios From California Microwave
The Microwave Network Systems Divisionís (MNS) point-to-point, 6-GHz digital microwave radios will form the backbone links for the overall network. In addition, 950-MHz and 2-GHz radios from the Microwave Data Systems Division (MDS) are specified for "last-mile" or low-density interconnections. The microwave radios and other transmission elements in the network will be managed by California Microwaveís TELESCANô 3000 network management system.

Dr. Douglas H. Morais, California Microwaveís Executive Vice President-Business Development and Technology commented, "We are especially delighted to participate in the development of this major communications network in Jamaica. Digital microwave radio has proven itself to be the most cost-effective transmission methodology available for quick deployment and highly reliable service in building new communications networks, particularly in mountainous terrain such as in Jamaica. We are pleased that the Jamaica Public Service Company has chosen California Microwave as its technology partner in this effort."
