CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE SATELLITE TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS
MOVES TO ASSURE DVB INTEROPERABILITY
OF ALL ITS DIGITAL VIDEO PRODUCTS

Hauppauge, NY - In a move which addresses an important issue facing the television broadcasting industry, California Microwave Satellite Transmission Systems is supporting the efforts by the DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) Committee to establish a unified standard for interoperability in Digital Compression of television signals using the international MPEG-2 standard.

For Satellite News Gathering (SNG), Distance Learning, Business Television, and other applications requiring Open Network Architecture, the interoperability of digital television compression products manufactured by different companies is essential. Digital television provides improved signal quality, reduces transponder costs, allows more efficient use of available band width, and needs less HPA power. In addition, simpler and more reliable operation are typical.

California Microwave Satellite Transmission Systems is participating in tests with other members of The DVB Group during the National Association of Broadcasters Convention (NAB), APRIL 14-18, 1996 in Las Vegas. These tests were designed to insure that all MPEG-2 DVB encoders work with receivers from the largest possible number of manufacturers. California Microwave Satellite Transmission Systems made television history in 1994 by introducing PROGENY™, the world’s first digital satellite television news gathering exciter and studio grade receiver. Since then, it has introduced digital television products that are on the cutting edge of technology. At NAB ‘96, the company presented its NewsTrek™, DSNG vehicle. This is the first compact news vehicle of its kind. Built on a Chevrolet TAHOE chassis, it provides an all-digital link in a standard-class passenger vehicle that requires no special motor vehicle license. Aboard are some of the most advanced digital television products from California Microwave Satellite Transmission Systems and a number of other manufacturers.
