CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE'S MRC DIVISION
TO OFFER NERA NETWORKS HIGH-CAPACITY RADIOS

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA-CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE, INC. (Nasdaq National Market: CMIC) announced today that its Microwave Radio Communications (MRC) division has signed a memorandum of understanding with Nera Networks AS to offer Nera's 155 Mbps digital microwave systems for high-capacity video-centric network applications. MRC is featuring a Nera CityLink 155 Mbps, 23-GHz radio at the National Association of Broadcaster's convention in Las Vegas, April 6-9, 1998.

Conversion to Digital is Driving Requirement for Higher Capacity Radio Links
As the U.S. television broadcast industry starts implementing digital video broadcasting, public and commercial broadcasters with regional networks and intercity relays are exploring the possibility of replacing existing analog links with higher capacity digital microwave systems. In some cases, these requirements are being driven by the need to transport minimally compressed DTV signals along with minimally compressed legacy NTSC signals on the same microwave path. In other cases, public broadcast networks, in particular, are exploring combining other governmental voice and data traffic over the same networks as their video program distribution. With the addition of the 155 Mbps radio systems from Nera Networks, MRC now offers the television broadcast industry a full line of digital microwave systems from 2 to 25 GHz, at rates from 34 Mbps to 155 Mbps.

"Microwave Radio Communications is pleased to be partnering with Nera Networks on high capacity video-centric radio solutions. As one of the leading providers of 155 Mbps microwave radio systems, Nera offers us a broad, proven, well-supported line of systems for our customers. By integrating video codecs and other video-centric interfaces with these radio systems, MRC will be providing focused high-capacity radio systems to our traditional analog network customers," said Robert J. Morrill, president of Microwave Radio Communications.

"Nera who has been providing high capacity digital radio systems for the broadcast market for many years, is happy to team with Microwave Radio Communications on radio based video-centric solutions and we see this as a new opportunity for our high capacity microwave radio," says Arnfinn Tveit, president of Nera Networks AS.
