CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE AND POSITRON FIBER
TO DEVELOP HIGH CAPACITY RADIO AND MULTIPLEXER

REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA - CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE, INC. (Nasdaq National Market:CMIC) announced that its Microwave Network Systems Division had reached an agreement with Positron Fiber Systems (PFS) to develop and market high-capacity radios and multiplexers on a joint basis. The first product developed, the CM-HC high-capacity microwave radio and multiplexer, will be unveiled at the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association's national conference March 25-27, 1996, in Dallas, Texas. The CM-HC product platform can operate in either synchronous, asynchronous or a mixed fiber optic and microwave environment.

$500 Million Market
Under the agreement, California Microwavewill integrate PFS' state-of-the-art SONET and SDH multiplex technology into its CM-HC family of high-capacity microwave radios using the joint resources of both organizations. This agreement provides an entree for California Microwave to address both the $500 million SONET/SDH microwave radio and the fiber optic multiplexer markets. "Sharing technology and marketing each other's products allows both organizations to get to market faster, which increases our growth potential," commented PFS' vice president of sales and marketing, Andrew Knott.

Global Product Platform
The CM-HC family of radios and multiplexer products operates in the long-haul frequency bands of 6, 7, 8 and 11GHZ. Capacity can be upgraded from 6 to 155 Mb/s. The CM-HC is a global product platform, interfacing with both the North American and International standard data rates (DS1/E1, SONET/SDH and PDH 135/140 Mb/s standards), as well as accommodating a hybrid communications environment. The high-capacity multiplexer portion of the CM-HC also can operate in a stand-alone wireline or fiber network. This flexibility allows users to cost effectively migrate networks from asynchronous to synchronous environments, while preserving existing communications infrastructure investments.

Positron Fiber systems, Inc. (PFS), headquartered in New Jersey, is a new member of the Positron Industries Group, which has designed and manufactured telecommunications equipment since 1970. PFS is dedicated to providing highquality, fiber optic multiplexers for the SONET/SDH access market. Its OSIRIS product was awarded "Best of Show" Finalist by Data Communications and LAN Times magazines at the Networld+ Interop show in Atlanta in 1995.
