CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE INTRODUCES CM11
HIGH-CAPACITY DIGITAL MICROWAVE RADIO

Redwood City, California - CALIFORNIA MICROWAVE, INC. (CMIC-Nasdaq) today announced that its Microwave Network Systems (MNS) division has released the CM11, the newest member of its CM High Capacity (HC) series of digital microwave radios. The CM HC family features one basic design covering many data rates and RF configurations for the highest possible degree of commonality.

The new CM11 joins the CM6 (5.9225 to 6.875 GHz) in the series of high-capacity, high-performance, high-quality, feature-rich radios. They are easy to use, available now at cost-effective prices and have the flexibility to meet usersí present and future needs.

The CM11 provides bandwidth-efficient transmission of voice and data for all common carriers, cellular and private networks. Operating in the frequency band 10.7 to 11.7 GHz, the CM11 offers capacities ranging from 4xDS1 to 3xDS3. The CM11 delivers as much as 118.5 dB of system gain.

The compact CM11 is available in hot standby and space diversity protection configurations as well as a non-protected version. Additionally, service channels can be protected or non-protected as desired. Modulation techniques used for the capacities of 4, 8, 12, 28 DS1, and 3 DS3 range from 8 QAM to 128 QAM, making the CM HC among the most spectrally efficient family of radios ever designed.

Upgrades and frequency changes on the CM HC radios can be accomplished in the field quickly and simply, by replacing a few modules, changing the distribution filters, and setting the synthesizer (if frequency change is required).

Additional features that ensure operating reliability are errorless space diversity switching as well as hitless receiver switching. Forward error correction, which is applied to both the primary traffic channel and service channels, enhances radio performance by correcting bit errors that occur during transmission. This, coupled with a power amplifier pre-distorter, provides improved system gain. Performance during fading can also be improved with automatic power control, which increases transmit power during a severe fade.

California Microwave, Inc. is a leading U.S. supplier of satellite earth station and microwave radio infrastructure products, installed in more than 110 countries. The MNS division designs and manufactures microwave radio systems for cellular, personal communications services and public and private communications networks. With total implementation capabilities, MNS offers system design, path engineering, program management, installation, training and maintenance. MNS facilities are certified to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
